Rain and mud, and how one team played the conditions better, is the story of this game.
Westport must have had 70% possession and territory in this match on their home ground and they played the more intelligent rugby for majority of the time.
Wegians led by 8 points to 6 at half time, a try from Matt Dever and a penalty from Ross Shaughnessy were enough to nose them in front of the 2 penalties from Lyndon Jones in a relatively even first half.
The second half was all Westport as their kicking and mauling game kept them in the Wegians half. A try from Conor Hasting that Jones converted gave them a lead they would not relinquish.
A late Jones penalty denied the visitors even a bonus point.
