Towns Seconds XV Cup Previews

Newbridge Tullow 2nd xv

Leinster Provincial Towns 2nd Xv Cup

North Kildare v Newbridge

Hard to see an upset coming from North Kildare against the reigning champions who are joint leaders of the J2 leinster league with metro side Wanderers. The hunger to retain the title should keep Newbridge very much on track.

Away by 12
Dundalk v Tullow

The hosts have struggled in the seconds league for Division 1a while the visitors are unbeaten in the seconds league for Division 1b and were last year’s runners up. They’re also most people’s favourites to emerge from the top half of the draw.

Away by 12

Mullingar v Clondalkin

Hard to see the midlanders upsetting a fairly strong side from Clondalkin, even on home turf. The men in yellow are a side to watch in the top half of the draw.

Away by 8

Midland Warriors 1xv v Gorey

The Warriors from Division 3 will be hoping some promising league form this season will translate into a good cup run. Gorey 2nd xv are playing third tier second league rugby but have been fairly strong. This will be close but the long journey and home teams confidence will work against them.

Home by 7

Co Carlow v Portlaoise

The turnaround in Carlow has probably come too late to revive the fortunes of the J2 side and Portlaoise have been reasonably strong at this level this year.

Away by 3

Kilkenny v Tullamore

While Kilkenny’s first xv have been in flying form this year it hasn’t trickled down and they face a daunting task against a very strong and consistent Tullamore side.

Away by 18

North Meath v Cill Dara

Tough draw for the first xv North Meath but not beyond them either. The 2011 title winners haven’t kicked on from that success and have been up and down in Division 3 this year. Cill Dara’s J1s have dropped back from their very good from last season but in a much tougher Division. The higher standard might help in the cup.

Away by 2

Wicklow v Enniscorthy

Very hard call, Wicklow strong enough in 1b while Enniscorthy have not been completely outclassed in 1a and have scored fairly freely.

Away by 4

Birr 1xv v West Offaly 1xv

Match of the day without question, these two sides are slowly developing a rivalry. They hadn’t me competitively before this season with the Ferbane men having started life in Connacht before moving to Leinster. Birr come in as warm favourites, well ahead of their opponents in league play.

Expecting NK to do the business. Alot of players just coming good for them.

  2. ScrewyLouis says:

really hoping to see NK do damage , they have been classed as underdogs this whole season but i have a feeling they will surprise alot of people for the seconds towns Cup

  3. Big Ben says:

There’s more chance of Gerry Adams moving into Buckingham Palace then NK beating NB

  4. bumblebee says:

    Enniscorthy seconds are hooligans!

  5. minefieldwarrior says:

We played that North Kildare side in a friendly in October and they dominated us, that soft Newbridge team is in for a serious surprise on Sunday. also heard a rumour that one of the North 1sts props that was out injured for towns cup is returning as a centre for 2nds. Just wish we could play towns cup in the minefield. Frost Uber Allez

  6. Sunny Bill says:

Yeah Newbridge are soft! Your dead right soft as putty. Oh wait let me see they are top of Div 1A of the league by virtue of the fact that they have won more games than the chaps. Not to mention they are the current champions. North Kildare might be loading their team tomorrow and god knows they will probably give Newbridge a right good rattle. But rest assured Newbridge are not soft and they won’t be underestimating NK.

  7. Damien Sutton says:

Some really interesting games here, fantastic competition, some really good lads on show this Sunday. Bad weather an heavy pitches will prob lead to a few upsets. Expecting Newbridge to mount the strongest challenge but cill Dara an Tullamore are capable of winning too. North Meath a good outside bet perhaps?

  8. Big Ben says:

Ba ha ha ha ha….. Newbridge are soft? NB seconds are the best J2 side in Leinster. Fact! They wud prob beat NK first never mind the lowly NK seconds… Oooooh! A first team prop playing in the centre? I’d say that’s more of an advantage to NB than it is NK. You’re deluded lads! You’ll get the hiding you deserve….

    • kenneth goodwin says:

there are a few cracking games tomorrow, the shackles will be off for north kildare and they will run everything from anywhere, newbrodge are in for a hell of a wake up call and thats a fact.

    • B.F.G. says:

just because North Kildare are beating you in the league their is no need for the agro towards them!!!!!! I think the only one deluded is you Big Ben thinking your going to get ahead of NK for a playoff place………….

  9. Big Ben says:

Eh Big Ben is from Newbridge lad…NK are not even on our radar…. What division are you lot in again?

  10. Big Ben says:

    wanderers beat newbridge 50-6

    • ashley culbert says:

newbridges problem all season is they just arent tough enough, far to many show ponies and lads from the town. they should recruit a few hardy farmers for next year

  11. Big Ben says:

Hmmm… After careful consideration I have to agree with you. We have massive problems in Newbridge compared to those in NK. How ever will we emulate you? What a clown you are!

  12. Blindside says:

Who cares it’s only the 2nds towns cup if ye were any good ye’d be playing 1sts

  13. Big Ben says:

Firstly I’m retired. Secondly I did play firsts both Senior and Junior and thirdly if you don’t care about the seconds cup why are you on this thread?

  14. How is e says:

Newbridge seconds are a crowd of hooligans, can’t see them going far in this competition

  15. Biffo says:

Tullamore will ram in down Newbridges throat in the semi of the 2nds towns cup. Not to mention them winning the 2nds league on the last day at home in Spollenstown. Add to that the quadrople of Midlands League, All Ireland Cup, Div 1A league and Towns Cup. Making Tullamore the greatest squad of junior players ever assembled.

    • rugbyrot says:

You said it yourself there biffo….’assembled’ ie poached from neighbouring clubs !!

      • dropped says:

newbridge r like scotland, every year this will be the turning point. excuses excuses

      • Lord of the Manor says:

Who have Tullamore “poached”? Lads come to Tullamore to play a better standard of rugby. They approach Tullamore
Its not like any of them are getting paid.

  16. Oval Ball says:

You would want to check your facts Lord of the Manor, players were approached in neighbouring clubs and offered incentives to join.

  17. Big Ben says:

Dropped: every year for the last 8 years Newbridge have improved their league finishing position. This year hope to finish third. We finished 4th last season. This is only our third year in Division 1a. Tullamore spent a decade finishing 2nd, 3rd and 4th. It’s called progress you idiot!

  18. Johnny_B says:

The chaps beat newbridge twice, 50-6 in newbridge, they also beat tullamore 46-5 !!

So think they must be up there when discussing best J2 team in Leinster Big Ben.

Sounds like the tullamore newbridge game on last day in spollenstown will be a tasty affair …

  19. Big Ben says:

Indeed they are up there… No doubt about that. We took a hiding off them with a very weak team out. Much closer affair two weeks ago on their patch. Still we have the 2nds Towns cup in the club house and we lead them in the league. Just! A league table never lies…. ;-p

Close game today in the Maws then. Like I said ….you’re deluded lads.

  20. wrecking ball says:

big ben how did newbridge do today?

  21. How is e says:

    Bumblebee shut up you bafoon

    • bumblebee says:

How is she? I put your poor spelling down to a symbol of the general ignorance of the enniscorthy Rugby club you swine. You people make me sick. Come on the little black and yellas!

  22. mr bojangles says:

newbridge have the best j2 team in leinster and will win the 2nds cup again this year without too much difficulty

  23. How is e says:

It’s actually how is e! open your eyes sometime and you might actually see how newbridge are a very average junior club

    • bumblebee says:

Oh please we have 4 bros on a plane from nz and we have signed the cill dara pack for next year for a set of cutlery we will be the finest team in the land! We have also signed usain bolt from man utd and and rod Stewart from celtic so we also have the best fans in leinster rugby. Come on the little balack and yellas newbridge born n bred

      • jaimee killian says:

well i always got a fantastic welcome anytime we played the bridge, they are a great bunch of lads.

vive le little black and yellow boys!!
