Corrib RFC secured a vital 14-12 home win over Castlebar on Sunday lunchtime in their re-arranged league game with the the runaway league leaders.
The relegation threatened Headford side secured a key win in a vital game that gives them renewed hope of avoiding the relegation play off at the end of the season.
It was Castlebar’s first defeat of the season and came a week after their headline grabbing Junior Cup quarter final upset win in Westport. The result will be a wake up call for them ahead of their semi final with Monivea in two weeks time.
David Staunton and Nigel Byrne scored tries for the Mayo side but Evan Flynn’s three penalties and a try from Ger Flynn helped Corrib to a big win which pulls them closer to safety after a season where they haven’t found their form for the most part.
Elsewhere over the weekend, Ballyhaunis secured a place in the Heineken Junior Plate semi finals with a comprehensive 26-3 win over Loughrea on Saturday night. Tries from Jean Piere Jeffries and Gabriel Gallagher helped them to the win. Mark Waldron kicked three penalties, Jeffries added a penalty and conversion.

SEEMS FAIR ALRITE MAN, BSLOE BEAT BUCCS 25-0 ALRITE
Seems some teams don’t rate it all by conceding. Shame
Any teams conceeding games at Junior 1a,b,c Level be it Connacht Junior League, Junior Cup/Plate and Cawley Cup should be relegated to Division 2 the next season. The Junior Plate is very important in order to keep Rugby going for clubs who have been unlucky to loose early Junior Cup games. These clubs who fail to fulfill games should only get reduced Grant Payments if they apply for same. Also their International Ticket Allocation should take a hit.
Our plate match was cancelled 2hrs prior to kick off on original fixture date due to poor weather. Our team had already met up to travel. The refix was for following sunday, but 5 of our team were going to wales game. We were told it had to be played. we conceded as we didn’t have enough players available. We didn’t want to concede.
Damn Connacht branch again they have not a clue
Why dont you apply to join ? I’m sure you’d sort everything out. You’d certainly have plenty to say!
Would love to, how do I apply?
Gort 7 Sligo 0
So it is Gort and Monivea next. Should be a good game.
Gort will play Galwegains next not Monivea
