County Carlow and Roscrea emerged from their re-arranged Cup ties on Saturday with their towns cup aspirations still in tact while Mullingar received a walkover after New Ross failed to field.
Carlow’s comfortable home win over Navan 2nds underlines their ambitions to finish a tough season on a high. They will face fellow Division 1b outfit Ashbourne away from home this coming Sunday in round 2.
Third tier Roscrea are away to fourth tier Athy this Sunday after they overcame Boyne seconds in comfortable fashion.
Mullingar meanwhile advance to take on All Ireland Cup holders and Leinster league winners Tullamore in round two.

Very unusual that New Ross gave a walkover in the Towns Cup. They must be really struggling.
Heard that Ross were down to 13 or 14 players max who were able to travel. Dont see them in the draw for the Plate though???
Thats sad to hear. I know they have had a tough year but I would have though they would have managed to field in the PTC
Wasn’t a decision that was taken lightly but they just couldn’t get the numbers- work, injuries etc and when you haven’t fielded a 2nds team all year the numbers just weren’t there.
