Galwegians secured a bonus point win while condemning Loughrea to relegation at a cold and blustery Crowley Park on Sunday.
The first half was a typical relegation dogfight with neither side able to play any cohesive rugby on a heavy pitch.
The half time score of 3-3 was a fair reflection on the quality of the fare being served up by two team desperate not to lose.
However playing into the elements seemed to release the shackles for Wegians as they ran in 5 tries in the second half.
The Sky Blues pack wore down their opposite numbers and their slick backline conjured up some craicing tries that were sandwiched between the opening and closing tries by 2 of the props.
A result is still needed by Wegians agains the champions to avoid a possible relegation playoff.
