Portarlington RFC will have a new man at the helm this season and he will be a familiar face to long time followers of the county Laois club.
South African Johan Taylor returns to the side he coached with considerable success in the 90s after an eventful few years on his travels.
Meanwhile, James Hyland will captain the club this season as they look to improve on a mixed bag of a campaign in Division 1b last season.
Taylor, who has the level 3 coaching badge, has coaching experience with Cill Dara as well having taken them up through the divisions before traveling as far away as Sri Lanka where he ended up coaching the national side in an IRB role.
The Portarlington RFC facebook post added
“A lot of people in port will know (Johan) as he started his career here – living in a little house on Foxcroft street” During his time at the club “he brought 40 lads from port to South Africa in 99 in the trip of a life time.”
Port start their season on Sunday week at home to Athy in the first round of the Hosie Cup a competition which they won in 2012. Their league campaign begins a month later on September 29th when they host Wicklow at Ross Road.
