Ballina Castlebar

Connacht Junior League Division 1a

Ballina v Corinthians 2nds, (Sunday, 2:30) – note fixture was down for Saturday earlier this week.

If Ballina are to stand a realistic chance of finishing second and grabbing the AIL Round Robin spot, they need to win this clash on Saturday, they are five behind the league leaders Corinthians having played a game more, so title hopes are beyond them but a win here could keep them in the hunt for a first ever Round Robin appearance.

Corinthians are almost there in the title race, the big win over OLBC was crucial last week with the late try denying the visitors a vital bonus point. Monivea are the only side that might catch them from here as they still have to play the Galway men but for that to happen they’d have to lose here too and we think they’ll find a way past the north Mayo side.

rob, why castlebar are ahead of the blacks in 1a if the blacks have a better points diff?

Good spot, the table is taken from the Branch website. I’ll drop them an email on it. They must have the sorting done to count wins as the first means of separating sides then points difference. However, under branch regulations, the first means of separating two sides level on points in the table, (1) is points difference, (2) followed by tries scored (3) then points scored. So the table should show Connemara ahead of Castlebar as the number of games won is irrelevant.
